Laser Vein Therapy treats a broad range of vessels. From tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins, it has the ideal laser wavelength and most flexible parameters to deliver a superior vascular laser system for patients of nearly all skin types. Laser Vein Therapy can also clear up blood blisters, usually in just one session. Patients with port wine stains and other vascular lesions have also experienced fantastic results.
How Does It Work?
Laser Vein Therapy delivers pulses of light that destroy bad vessels so that blood flow can be redirected to veins deeper below the skin’s surface. Many patients prefer Laser Vein Therapy as it does not require the painful injections needed to perform Sclerotherapy.
How Does It Feel?
Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the handpiece delivers pulses of energy. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, many patients ask for topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Pain is minimal to nonexistent following treatment.
What Types of Veins Can Be Treated?
Laser Vein Therapy can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins, however, are not good candidates. A careful evaluation with your physician will help you determine which vessels can be treated.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients see sufficient results in just 1 or 2 treatments. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated. Your physician should be able to tell you more after examining your specific condition.
What Happens After?
Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment. Patients who have leg vein treatments may be advised to wear support hose for a short time after treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Few patients report to having few if any side effects. Those most commonly reported include slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare cases, blistering may occur. Your physician will give you a complete overview of the benefits and risks of the treatment.
Are There Any Restrictions After Treatment?
Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately afterward. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. It is also a good idea to limit sun exposure and to apply sunscreen when you’re outside.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients see sufficient results within 2-6 weeks, although it may take as long as several months for some individuals to see final results. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be removed.
